Coin Collecting Book
A good coin collecting book is a necessity for a coin collector, whether beginner or expert. The book can give you all the information you need to know about collecting coins for fun and profit.
I have been a coin collector for 30 years, but I still buy books on coin collecting. A beginner should buy a book before even buying their first coin. This is because there are smart ways to buy coins, and without having knowledge, you may not get the best value in buying the coin. A coin collecting book will show you how to buy coins, where to buy them, and how to value coins so you know you are getting the right deal.
Most hobbies cost the hobbyist money. Coin collecting, on the other hand, is a hobby that pays for itself. You are not buying something that loses value as soon as you take it off the shelf. You are buying an investment in a collectors item, that will hopefully gain value over the time you have it. If you buy the right coins, they generally will be worth more when you go to sell them.
Not all coins increase in value over time though. This is because some of them are just too common to ever become a collectors item. A good coin book will show you how to determine what is an investment grade coin. You may not care that all the coins you buy will be investment grade, but it is still helpful if you know how to distinguish these coins.
What should you look for in a coin collecting book? It depends on your level of expertise. A good beginning coin collecting book will be general in nature. It will discuss grading coins, how to care for coins, how to determine the value of coins, and how to buy ad sell.
More advanced books will discuss particular aspects of coin collecting. They may be books on coins of a certain country, or a certain age. Or collecting for investment, or even a book on coin collecting accessories.
No matter what your reason for buying, a good coin collecting book is a must have for every collector.
